Title Alt
Wolverine I Space Fighter (Original Version)

 About the Wolverine I
The Wolverine I is the dedicated interceptor variant of the C Quadrant Defenders' Wolverine series. This stripped-down spaceframe has been optimized for speed and maneuverability over endurance. Both of the engine nacelles have been removed, instead replaced with small wings for reduced drag. The T-tail has also been replaced with a compact tail structure, shortening the fuselage slightly. Extending from the tail is a long range antenna intended to maintain communications hopefully even while being jammed, either to come to the aid of friendly vessels, or request its own reinforcements.

The armament has been improved somewhat over the base model. Two of the machine guns in the nose have been instead replaced with a pair of XIP cannons, displacing the machine gun magazines to just in front of the cockpit on the sides of the spaceframe. XIP cannons fire a Xenon-Infused Projectile, a small shell capable of detonating a bright flash of concentrated heat. While these aren't as powerful as a gauss cannon, they are certainly more powerful than standard machine guns would be. They also have the benefit of being used as flares in combat, illuminating targets for friendly forces to spot.

The resulting Wolverine H is faster, more nimble, and more heavily armed for interdicting targets when compared the standard Wolverine.

   The Wolverine I and pilot.

The nose manages to fit two XIP cannons and two machine guns.

The side profile is somewhat truncated compared to the standard model. The color scheme allows it to hide better in the darkness of space.

The T-tail is replaced with a more traditional shape. A long range antenna is afixed at the back to hopefully overpower any jamming signal that might block a summons for help.

Both engine nacelles have been removed, and replaced with smaller profile wings marked with CQD interceptor insiginia.

A pair of XIP cannons are crammed into the nose, however this displaced the machine gun magazines, which are now mounted externally for easy rearmament.

The cockpit is simple, forgoing the dorsal storage compartment for a slightly deeper cockpit for the pilot's sidearm and cap.

The pilot lounges next to his fighter, showing his sidearm and cap.

 Meta Description
This is another one of those kinda clunky builds that I posted back in June 2008 to MOCpages. The tail structure never really looked quite right to me, and the nose guns looked more like fangs. The color scheme came out nice though -- sorta had Blacktron vibes. The original photographs were really too dark to see the contours quite right. I've modernized and improved it since then, which you can see here.
